What to Expect
Prior to Arrival:
Please eat a little something before your treatment - a light meal that includes some protein is best.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Please try not to brush your tongue the day of your treatment - observing your tongue coat is an important part of diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Upon Arrival:
Please have your paperwork filled out before your visit, which you will receive via email prior to your appointment. You may also arrive early and relax with some delicious complimentary tea!
During Treatment:
I will ask you many questions about your chief complaint, overall health, & general tendencies. Please be completely honest with me & with yourself. Your trust & honesty will enable me to do my best job for you.
Most people's primary concern about receiving acupuncture centers around the fact that acupuncture involves inserting needles into the body. Allow me to allay your concerns. All needles are sterile and used only once - on you & only you. After you, the needles are disposed of in a SHARPS container, never again to see the light of day. The needles are extremely fine - barely wider than a strand of hair. Because of this, acupuncture needles generally do not hurt. What does being needled feel like? Usually just a dull ache or heaviness at the needle site.
After the needles are inserted, you will relax with them for 20-30 minutes. Most people find this intensely blissful & even fall asleep. I will be in the next room should you need anything during this time. I will also be coming in & checking on you (or not, if that is your preference).
In addition to acupuncture, you may receive other modalities of Chinese Medicine, including:
Cupping
Moxibustion
Gua Sha
Heat Therapy
Electrical Stimulation of Needles
After Treatment:
Most people enjoy a post-treatment state of sublime relaxation. It is possible to experience a mild flare-up of your symptoms after an acupuncture treatment. This usually only lasts a few hours, followed by considerable improvement of your condition. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me at 828.333.4614.
